New Dilley District Office

THE PROJECT

The new district office in Dilley for the Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MEC) is a 19,225 square foot project consisting of three separate buildings, outdoor storage and a demonstration garden consisting

of a water harvesting system, a wind turbine and photovoltaic display. The three buildings include an

office/training room, warehouse/lineman area and truck barn. Our service included full furniture selection, procurement documents and installation observation.

THE PROGRAM

The Dilley District office had a central strategic location within the Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc.’s service area. Given its location, it would be able to serve as a space for training and gatherings for

the coop’s employees. Thus, the office’s program expanded to include a training room that would be

able to serve 150 persons equiped with a warming kitchen. The space would also be available for the growing community of Dilley to hold meetings and functions.

The Dilley office sets a new building standard for future district office construction by Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc.. Previous offices had all three programs of the office, warehouse, and truckbarn connected to one another. The Dilley office design separated the three programs which helped with natural lighting into offices, better air quality and the ability to expand more easily. The residual space between the office and warehouse was made into a garden space for employees to enjoy and hold events.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc. desired to showcase their new office’s water and energy conservative measures that could be incorporated into their members’ homes. The Dilley office

incorporated a solar water heater system, a water harvesting system, a wind turbine and a photovoltaic

display for potential residential use. The project also incorporates natural lighting measures to reduce the dependence on artifical lighting. There was also a conservative effort to obtain materials with recycled content and that were manufactured within a 500 mile radius.
